The owner of an animal shelter is hoping that people will dig deep when they open their doors for a fundraising event this weekend.

Brinsley Animal Rescue is currently home to 200 small pets, farm animals and wild life.

On Sunday they will be open to the public and raising cash for their animal hospital which is currently being built.

Owner Beth Huwis said: “We are a small hand to mouth charity and need all the help we can get.

“We don’t have staff, just volunteers, all the money goes to the animals and we need cash to keep the facility open and finish off the animal hospital.

“We can have up to 200 animlas here at any one time, members of the public bring in unwanted pets or injured wildlife.

“At the moment we hav e a lot of hedgehogs.”

The centre, at 69 Hobsic Close, will be open from 11am - 4pm on Sunday for people to see the animals living there.

Activities will be on offer as well as food and drink and the chance to try Blind Boris, a beer brewed by Marpool Brewery and named after the centre’s famous blind bull.

Beth is hoping that lots of people will turn out and the day wil help them reach the £10,000 target needed to finish work on the hospital and equip it.

She said: “Because we’re not usually open to the public it’s a good chance for them to come and see what it is we do here and how importnat our work is.

“We hope the community come along and enjoy the day and help us help the animals.”
