LONG Eaton residents can sign a petition fighting policing cuts and plans to switch off street lighting on Saturday.
Erewash Labour Party will be out and about the town from 10am-1pm gathering signatures against the government’s £14m cut to Derbyshire Police’s budget and Derbyshire County Council’s plans to turn off 40,000 street lights between midnight and 5.30am.
Cllr Clare Neill told the Advertiser she was burgled last year and is concerned the impact these plans could have on crime rates.
“It’s the combination of the two things that people are most worried about,” she said. “Less police on the street and more dark streets is an invitation to criminals.”
