Charities need votes

CHARITIES and community groups from Ilkeston and the surrounding area are in the running to win £6,000 – but they need your votes.

Among 28 good causes from Derbyshire shortlisted to be given the NatWest CommunityForce awards are the Shipley Park Rangers football club, Awsworth Village Cricket Club and the 1st Erewash Scout Group

Also nominated are Treetops Hospice and Cotmanhay-based Quackers farm.

The three groups picked to win the cash will also be listed on an online network aimed at attracting volunteers to the organisations and will receive help and banking expertise from NatWest staff.

Residents can vote for their favourite and see the other nominees at www.natwest.com/communityforce until October 23.

CommunityForce was launched in July this year to support charities and good causes in communities served by RBS and NatWest branches. In each of the 158 individual CommunityForce areas in the UK the bank are offering three local projects the chance to win an award of £6,000 each. Following the launch more than 5,820 applications were received.

The CommunityForce initiative offers organisations more than just financial support. By applying for the awards local charities and projects have become part of a local online network giving them greater visibility and the opportunity to attract volunteers from the local area. NatWest staff will also be getting involved by giving their time and expertise to the organisations, supporting the banks commitment to deliver 7000 days of community volunteering in 2011.
