Charity starts at home

I agree with Mick Slaney’s letter in the ‘Tiser regarding the amount we spend in this country on overseas aid.

I agree that we must stop giving away £12.5 billion in aid while this country is in the mess it is. But this is only the tip of the iceberg.

We are also paying out billions of pounds to subsidise the European Union (EU) aid budget as well as paying towards refurbishing the main sewers in Turkey, road schemes in Tenerife and many other schemes dreamed up by the EU to give non-EU members help.

The madness is getting beyond a joke and must stop, charity begins at home.
