Chasing the Blues away
PORK-PIE hats and pairs of shades lent a touch of Chicago to Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall last week as The Blues Brothers Xmas Party added to the festive fun in the city.
This Christmas cracker of an offering delighted audiences from Thursday-Saturday with a high-energy, feel-good musical which stormed through hit after hit, from tender ballads to rip-roaring party pieces.
It is 30 years next year since Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi burst on to the world's cinema screens in a movie which became one of the most important rock 'n' roll films of all time.
Here Simon Connolly and Ben Watson star as the brothers Jake and Elwood who turn in a spectacular show featuring rhythm and blues and comedy.
They have a rich background of theatre, Simon Connolly having toured in Salad Days while Ben Watson's CV covers almost everything from panto to Shakespeare.
Soon the pork-pie hats are swapped for Santa headgear in a series of lively Yuletide spots which double the entertainment value.
Add four sexy backing singers in the The Sensational Sisters of Soul and the Magnificent Seven Blues Band and the party is complete.
