IT is too early to say if a plan to create the UK’s biggest travel agent by merging Midlands Co-operative Travel and Thomas Cook will affect jobs in Ilkeston, according to a Co-op spokesman.
The Competition Commission gave the go-ahead for the move last week.
The USDAW union has warned that staff at Ilkeston Co-operative Travel in Bath Street and Midlands Co-operative Travel in the South Street department store may face ‘uncertainty’ after the merger.
A spokesman for Midlands Co-op said they will be working on a full review of structures across the businesses, which will see the joint venture’s head office in Peterborough.
She added the deal could be complete by April 2012.
