Costs are crippling drivers, says Trent

Motorists are being forced off the road by rising costs, according to a Derbyshire bus firm that runs routes throughout Ilkeston and the rest of the county.

Trent Barton questioned 250 drivers from around the region and found a third of them have cut back on using their car, and one in six said they would do if costs continued to rise. Most over-estimated the cost of taking the bus: 91 per cent believed the cost of their journey by bus would be more expensive than the actual fare, while 100 per cent thought the cost of using the firm’s smart card would be higher than the correct price.

People who drove to work and paid for parking at least once a week, were questioned.
