VICTORIA Park has been named one of the best in the country and awarded a Green Flag by impressed judges.
Erewash Borough Council announced the news this week and will mark the borough’s first Green Flag award with a celebration event which is now being organised.
The Green Flag award is the benchmark national standard for parks in England and Wales and is presented to parks that have excellent facilities and are well-maintained and well-managed by Keep Britain Tidy, BTCV and GreenSpace.
Cllr Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s lead member for culture and leisure, said: “This is our first Green Flag for Erewash and we are absolutely thrilled.
“It is a great boost for the area and the award is testament to the hard work that goes in to managing, maintaining and improving the park all year round.
“Victoria Park is a great place to relax, to take a stroll and also enjoy entertainment that is provided during the year. I know residents will be equally delighted at this good news – as will our Friends of Victoria Park members and students at Ilkeston School Specialist Arts College who have ‘adopted’ the park.
“We can fly the flag with pride!”
