COUNCILLORS unanimously backed a motion to support the Erewash School Sports Partnership (ESSP) at a meeting last week.
Labour leader Cllr Howard Griffiths put forward the motion which was backed by Cllr Alex Phillips. He said: “In the run up to the Olympic year we should encourage schools and young people to be involved in sport and the partnership do a very good job.”
Leader of the council, Cllr Chris Corbett, said: “Cllr Mike Wallis has met with the partnership and extended his full support, although he did emphasise the difficulty of providing direct monetary support.
“This council will continue to materially assist ESSP and will monitor the situation and review its position if necessary.”
