Plans for a double by-election are in the pipeline after two Stapleford town councillors both stepped down.
Christine Wombwell and Russell Whiting – who live hundreds of miles outside of the town – resigned from the authority within days of each other this month.
Mrs Wombwell and her husband, Broxtowe borough councillor for Stapleford Brian Wombwell – both Liberal Democrats – live in Somerset.
Cllr Wombwell has said he is not planning to step down.
Mr Whiting, who lives in London, is standing as a Parliamentary candidate for Labour in Suffolk for the 2015 General Election.
Mrs Wombwell said her resignation had ‘nothing to do with’ Mr Whiting’s decision last month.
A list of candidates for the two vacant positions is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
It is believed that there will be candidates from the Liberal Democrats and independents associated with the Stapleford Community Group, led by resident Richard MacRae.
The election could be held as early as mid-December.
