A husband and wife team have opened their own gym in Ilkeston with a range of fitness classes.
Gary and Louise Atkin run DE7 Fitness from a studio in Critchley Street.
Having taught classes at other gyms before they decided to venture out on their own and have already attracted a large number of members in just a few weeks.
Gary, 48, said: “It’s going really well. It couldn’t have gone any better. We have already got a around 200 members and are hoping for around 500.
“We are open seven days a weeks and it is all classes. When people go to the gym they have to think, whereas we do the thinking for them and they do the ‘doing’ and get the results in a short space of time.”
Classes include spinning, circuits, and bums and tums.
Gary, a former coach at Elite Feet Football, became more interested in health and fitness in recent years, though Louise, 50, has been a fitness instructor for a while. Gary was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes six years ago and had stents in his heart last year. He said exercise has helped and he is now fighting fit and four stone lighter.
They run around 73 classes each week.
