12-year-old kicks robber to escape from attack

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl escaped from a masked man who stole her mobile phone in Kirk Hallam by kicking him, in what police are calling a serious assault.

The attack happened at about 4.10pm on Sunday as she walked down Little Hallam Hill.

The robber grabbed her and pulled her down the slope, which leads to the Nutbrook Trail, where he stole her phone.

She kicked him on the leg and he ran off. The girl then ran home to tell her parents.

The man was white, about 5ft 7ins, of thin build with stubble, wearing a black waist-length jacket with a hood over his eyes, which had ‘goggle-like’ eye-holes. He also wore baggy dark blue jeans, black gloves and white trainers.

Children at nearby Ladywood Primary School were sent home with a letter warning parents after the incident.

Det Sgt Sandra Gibbs said: “There must have been a lot of people on the trail at the time. We are treating this assault very seriously. It is extremely unusual for a young girl to be approached in this way.”

Police are keen to speak to a dog walker whose animal disturbed the offender.
