A MAN accused of burglary has been stripped of nearly £3,500 he hid behind his bathroom sink by the courts.
Police raided Alan Chapman’s home in Graham Street in August last year after he was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
The 26-year-old was made to forfeit £3,435 found in his bathroom and in his wallet and ordered to pay costs of £4,000 at a hearing at Derby Magistrates Court on Tuesday April 3 after he could not prove he had earned the money legitimately.
The money seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act is split between the Treasury, police, court services and the Crown Prosecution Service.
No further action was taken against him in relation to the burglary.
