This bike, used in fatal crash on Nutbrook Trail, was stolen, police say.

Police are searching for the thieves who stole a bike which a 28-year-old man was riding when he died on the Nutbrook Trail.

Dean Crookes, 28, died after suffering head injuries when the motorbike collided with a tree on the trail near Quarry Hill in the early hours of Saturday October 5.

Officers are looking for information about the motorbike, which was stolen between 7pm on Saturday September 28 and 7am on Monday September 30 from Nelson Street in Cotmanhay.

They made it clear that Mr Crookes did not steal the bike.

It is a Yamaha 125cc bike which was maroon when it was stolen but had since been painted black and the rear registration plate removed.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the motorbike being used in the Ilkeston or Kirk Hallam areas since the theft.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
