An intruder broke into an Ilkeston home where the occupier was asleep on the sofa.
The incident happened at 2.15am on Wednesday (June 26) at a house on Newstead Road.
The offender forced open a window to get in to the lounge where the man had been asleep. He was woken up by the man climbing in to the house.
The burglar then ran through the hall and out through the front door, stealing a purse containing money and bank cards on his way.
He is described as just under 6ft tall and slim.
The owner of the house, a 52-year-old man, tried to follow him but he drove off in a car towards Summerfields Way.
