POLICE have released this photograph of a car found abandoned at Victoria Park after a town centre bank robbery last week.

Officers believe it was used by the robbers who smashed their way into Nationwide on Monday December 12.

A security firm was dropping off cash at the Bath Street building society at 8.50pm when a group of masked men smashed through the front doors

They threatened the guards with the hammers and made off with what police say was ‘a significant sum of cash’ in four cash boxes. As they ran off they dropped one of the boxes on the street.

They drove off in a black BMW, thought to be the one found abandoned the next morning in a car park in Drummond Road at the park.

A 26-year-old and a 24-year-old from Derby have since been arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone who may have seen the car that evening, or who may have seen it being abandoned at the park, should call police on 101.
