Former soldier stole set of night sights

A FORMER member of the armed forces from Ilkeston has pleaded guilty to playing a role in the theft of a pair of night-vision binoculars from barracks in Windsor.

Thomas Biddlestone, of Ilkeston appeared at Derby Crown Court on Thursday, where he admitted three offences of handling stolen goods and 10 counts of money laundering.

The 25-year-old was charged by Ministry of Defence police in May for his role in the stealing of a £45,000 set of night-sights from Combermere Barracks, between February 1 and 28 this year.

The MoD said the war-zone binoculars are used by soldiers on battlefields such as Afghanistan.

Biddlestone will be sentenced on November 3.
