Hammer-wielding robbers break into cash machine

MASKED robbers smashed their way into a bank to steal cash from an ATM.

Between 5pm and 5.45pm on Monday, two men in balaclavas used hammers to break down the front door of Santander in High Street, Long Eaton, and attempted to steal cash.

The men, wearing wearing dark clothing then damaged the cash machine from inside.

They stole a box, which is believed to be empty, and then ran off and jumped into a Subaru estate car being driven by a third man. The car drove off along Tamworth Road towards Sawley.

No-one was hurt during the incident although bank staff and a security guard were on the premises at the time of the incident.
