Police have made an appeal for witnesses after a woman was attacked on a street corner by a hooded man.

The attacker grabbed the woman, aged in her forties, on the corner of Stanton Road and Catherine Avenue.

The incident left her ‘shocked but not physically injured’, police have said.

Ilkeston officers are hoping people can recall the man running from the area.

He struck between 12.30am and 1.30am on December 16, while the victim was walking home.

Police have only just released details of the attack.

The offender was described as being white, between 5ft 6ins and 6ft tall.

At the time, he was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up, dark tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

After the attack, he ran down Catherine Avenue away from Stanton Road and on to a footpath which leads to Cavendish Road in one direction and Little Hallam Lane in the other.

A police spokesman said drivers travelling along Stanton Road may have noticed the incident.

He may well have been spotted running on Cavendish Road or Little Hallam Lane.

Anyone with information about the attack should call the Derbyshire police non-emergency number 101 and ask for Ilkeston CID.

Anonymous calls can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
