A Cotmanhay thug who left a teenager with brain damage has been jailed for eight years.

The 17-year-old victim spent many months – and his 18th birthday – in Queen’s Medical Centre after Lee Rhodes, of Dovedale Circle, attacked him in Cotmanhay Road on June 19.

Derbyshire police have praised two members of the public who tended to the victim and helped them with their enquiries and have put them forward for an award to show their appreciation.

Rhodes, 18, was sentenced for wounding with intent at Derby Crown Court on Monday.
