Licence appeal for Bar Centro

Bosses of a town centre bar that had its licence suspended in January have appeared in court to appeal the decision.

Former licence holder, Nick Carter of C&N Leisure Ltd, was at Chesterfield Magistrates last Wednesday to challenge the suspension.

The bar closed following the suspension which was originally imposed by Chesterfield Borough Council’s licensing committee last January.

The suspension related to an undercover police operation between October and December 2013, which revealed drug-related activity in the premises.

At the preliminary hearing, Duncan Craig, for the appellant, disputed the fact that the crimes committed leading to the decision were serious enough to warrant suspension of the licence.

The full appeal will be now heard at Chesterfield Magistrates court on May 28.

It is expected to take one day.
