MORE than 80 motorists were booked for driving offences in Ilkeston during a police campaign.
More than half of those – a total of 45 drivers – were stopped for not wearing a seatbelt at the wheel during the ‘Safedrive’ operation in Nottingham Road.
Eleven drivers were stopped because they were using a mobile phone, one vehicle was deemed too dangerous to drive and two were driving with no insurance.
Other offences included driving with no licence and driving with illegally tinted windows, while one driver was stopped because he was wanted by Nottinghamshire Police.
PCSO Matthew Lewis from the area’s policing team said: “Initiatives like this show the community that we are tackling these offenders.”
