THOUSANDS of people signed a petition which was presented to Parliament on Tuesday to make St George’s Day a Bank Holiday.
The signatures were collected by George’s Tradition fish and chip shop and presented to ministers by Erewash MP, Jessica Lee.
Jessica signed the petition at the Ilkeston shop when the campaign started at the beginning of April.
She said: “I thank George’s for raising this petition.
“I am delighted to present the petition in Parliament and give the campaign my full support.
“I think St George’s Day as a public holiday will be a great opportunity to bring communities together and celebrate our great heritage and traditions.”
