A 17-year-old has been charged after an assault which left a teenager fighting for his life.
The victim, named locally as Richard Wilson, 17, has been in a critical condition in intensive care at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, since the attack, which happened on Tuesday June 19.
He suffered serious head injuries after the alleged assault on Cotmanhay Road, near the Gardner Aerospace factory.
Police made renewed appeals for witnesses to come forward this week.
They wanted to speak to an off-duty nurse and a man, who was driving a BMW, who both stopped to help Richard, to come forward.
Richard, who is from Long Eaton, attended Bennerley School in Cotmanhay and is thought to have connections to the area.
Friends have left comments on his Facebook profile hoping that he pulls through.
Police confirmed on Monday a 17-year-old from Ilkeston, who cannot be named for legal reasons,has been charged with wounding with intent.
He is due to appear before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court in Derby on Wednesday July 11.
