Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday, May 19, how Daniel Mee, 22, of Baden Powell Road, Chesterfield, smashed the window after he had gone to his ex-partner’s home to mow the lawn and claimed she was making sarcastic gestures.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “The complainant stated she had been in a relationship with Mee. She said she saw him in her back garden and made her children breakfast and ignored Mee as he read a newspaper.

“She went onto her garden an hour later to mow the lawn and said you may as well read that in your own garden and he said I will go when I choose to go.

“He followed her into the house and she locked the door but he walked round to a side window and punched it several times causing it to break.”

Mee pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage after the incident on Saturday, May 17.

He told police he had gone to help with the garden and claimed the complainant had been sarcastic to him and he admitted breaking the window.

Defence solicitor Denny Lau said Mee who suffers with ADHD and dyspraxia told how the complainant arranged for him to sort out the garden.

Mr Lau added: “The argument was that he was reading the newspaper instead of doing the garden and things got heated. He said she was being sarcastic and waving to him and he banged on the window and put it threw.”

Magistrates fined Mee £73 and ordered him to pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge. They imposed a six-month restraining order and warned that any breach could result in up to five years behind bars.
