A shopkeeper, who was stabbed during an attempted raid at an off-licence in Ilkeston yesterday, is set to be released from hospital.

The incident happened at 7.55am at Sue’s Off Licence on the corner of John Street and Station Road.

The 61-year-old victim, named locally as Pete Eizens, suffered puncture wounds and is due to be released from Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, in the next 24 hours, police said.

John Street was cordoned off to traffic and there were a number of police officers, including scientific support, at the scene.

The attacker was described as white, in his mid 20s, around 5ft 10ins, of slim build and wearing dark clothing, a black scarf and black gloves.

He ran off in the direction of Alvenor Street.

Detectives would like to speak to anyone with information about the incident.

They said the victim would be interviewed by police after he is discharged from hospital.
