THE DIRECTOR of an Ilkeston firm has issued a warning to residents who may have had a leaflet from conmen masquerading as his company.
The leaflets, claiming to be from Merlin Way firm Lets Fascia It, have been posted through doors in Shipley View and Larklands in recent weeks offering cut-price quotes for fascia, guttering and over-cladding work.
The fraudsters have even gone so far as to print a Lets Fascia It logo on the side of their van in a bid to emulate the well-established Ilkeston firm.
This week David Carpenter has blasted the conmen and asked residents to only contact his firm via the details available on its website.
“I just want to put a stop to these people using our name falsely,” he said.
“They are doing a really shoddy job and often we are being contacted to sort out the mess they have left.”
The leaflets, which contain a very similar logo to the Ilkeston company, also contain an address in Aspley and an 0800 number.
David explained that they have never used a freephone number.
During an ongoing investigation by Scam Busters, it was found the Aspley address was actually a pawn brokers who knew nothing about the fake fascia fitters.
Scam Busters are asked to investigate by Trading Standards when a firm like this one is believed to be committing fraud across the East Midlands.
In this case, the fraudsters are also thought to have been operating in Giltbrook and Nuthall as well as Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire.
Team manager Paul Gretton said that an individual is currently being investigated.
Mr Carpenter added: “All our workers have got ID so please ask to see that. Contact us direct by phone at our Ilkeston office or come to visit us at our business in Merlin Way Industrial Estate.”
If you have received a leaflet claiming to be from Lets Fascia It, check the details against those held at www.letsfasciait.co.uk before contacting them.
