Cross country trek for Gaynor
Ilkeston legal secretary Gaynor Usher is preparing for a gruelling cross-country trek for charity.
Gaynor, who works at Robinsons Solicitors' Burns Street office, has taken on the Coast to Coast challenge, which will take her from St Bees Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire, 190 miles away, in aid of Cancer Research.
The route was devised by legendary hill-walker Alfred Wainwright and will see Gaynor scaling the heights among the mountains of the Lake District before crossing the North Yorkshire moors.
It will be the second task Gaynor has completed such a task. Three years ago, she raised more than 600 walking the 268-mile Pennine Way in memory of her mum Mary who died of cancer.
This time it will take Gaynor 15 days to complete their walk, which ramblers traditionally start by dipping their toe in the Irish Sea and finish by doing the same when they arrive at the North Sea.
She said: "It is meant to be a fantastic walk, but you have to treat it with respect. Some days I will be walking very long distances and bad weather can come in unexpectedly at any time.
"I have been training every weekend in the Peak District, but will just have to wait and see how I get on walking day after day."
