The countdown to Christmas starts in Ilkeston next week as the town’s official light switch on takes place.
Crowds will pack out the Market Place to see the switch flicked and the festive lights turned on, on Friday November 29.
Cllr Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s lead member for culture and leisure, said: “The countdown to Christmas 2013 is underway and we look forward to another wonderful celebration to light up the town.
“It is always a lovely, family event and brings everyone together to welcome the festive season and is a great opportunity for us to celebrate all that our town has to offer.”
The celebration event will take place between 5.30pm-8.30pm in Ilkeston town centre, with the Mayor of Erewash, Cllr Val Clare, switching on the lights at 7pm.
A Victorian Market wil l set up in the town centre and there will be traditional music and songs with local band Wildest Dream along with performances from Ilkeston Brass Band an carol singers.
Erewash Museum also joins the free festivities with a fun Dickensian theme to celebrate Victorian Christmas traditions and customs.
Residents and children can follow ‘reindeer footprints’ from the Market Place to the Museum where they can meet Ebenezer Scrooge and meet some of Santa’s reindeers in the grounds.
