They had received a call for a walker who was suffering a suspected heart-attack near to the top of the hill.

The 57-year old man was walking with friends when he began complaining of chest pains.

A passing cardiologist came to the gentleman’s attention before the emergency services were called. The DLRAA received the call at approximately 1pm and arrived at the scene 17 minutes later.

Due to the steep terrain, one of the crew’s paramedics was required to deplane mid-hover before the DLRAA pilot found an appropriate landing site.

The patient was assessed for chest pains and the crew’s observations suggested that he required immediate transfer to the nearest cardiology centre.

He was given advanced pain relief and cardiac drugs before he was moved to the aircraft, with the assistance of Edale Mountain Rescue Team.

He was then flown to Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester for further treatment. His current condition is unknown.

A DLRRA spokesman said: “DLRAA believes its patients should be able to reach specialist treatment no matter where their incident happens. The sooner they reach the most relevant hospital for their injuries the greater their chance of survival and recovery.”
