An eyesore former solicitors’ headquarters in Ilkeston has been repossessed and is finally being made ready to sell.

The Walter, Scott and Ross building in St Mary’s Street has caused trouble for neighbours since the firm was closed down for financial irregularities in 2009.

Squatters, living inside the building, have now been issued a notice to remove their belongings from the boarded-up premises by the Your Move estate agent on Bath Street, which is to sell the derelict building on the open market.

A spokesman for Your Move said that the building had been ‘gutted’ and completely stripped of it piping and electrics.

“Workmen have been there making it safe so we can access the building for a valuation and get it re-sold,” he explained.

“There’s nothing for neighbours to be worried about.”

After an investigation by the Advertiser last year it was
revealed that clients’ confidential files had been left in the building after it had been closed.
