Developer cash to improve two schools

SCHOOLS in Sandiacre are set to benefit from £126,000 released by a housing developer.

In 2004 Erewash Borough Council approved a plan to build 114 homes on the former site of Magna Seating Systems in Bridge Street on the condition that developer W. Westerman gave the cash to help improve the schools.

Education authority Derbyshire County Council received the cash in April 2010 and has now given the go-ahead for £101,000 to be spent at Ladycross Infants School on refurbishing the toilets and resurfacing the school’s outdoor area to make an all-weather learning area.

Cloudside Junior School was given £25,000 to redesign the entrance and reception area in order to improve security.

The council said the need to improve safeguarding at the school had been raised by Ofsted at the last inspection.

The money was given via a section 106 agreement.
