A NEW dog warden will take to the streets of Erewash if proposals to set aside £21,000 of the upcoming budget are approved at the next full council meeting.
Conservative councillors have promised a tough stance on dog fouling and say that an extra warden will help cut down on the problem.
Cllr Barbara Harrsion, lead member for the environment, said: “This position is just what we need to continue the fight against anti-social dog owners. Our staff work really hard to catch offenders and I believe the best way to reducing dog fouling is to heavily fine the dog owners.”
Leader of the council, Cllr Chris Corbett added: “I believe in taking a hard line with people who allow their dogs to foul our pavements and open spaces. It is not the dog’s fault, it is the owner’s and the bigger the fines they have to pay the better.”
