A DECISION has been made to convert Heanor Gate Science College into an academy.
The school’s governors have approved a formal application to make the switch and it is expected to happen on Tuesday November 1.
Headteacher Rob Howard, said the decision has not been taken lightly and comes after 18 months of discussions.
“We are entirely satisfied that this decision is the right and proper one for the future of Heanor Gate Science College, its staff, students and parents,” he said.
“We are looking forward to continuing to offer an inclusive learning environment for students of all abilities, as well as challenging all our students to achieve their maximum potential.
“In short, all involved can now look forward to a continued ‘outstanding’ future and to working together to make our college and our students’ achievements even better in the years ahead.”
Meanwhile, chairman of the governors, Andrew Collington, is stepping down from his role because his term of office has ended.
There will be an open evening tonight (Thursday) from 6pm to 9pm, for pupils in years five and six, their parents, and other interested visitors.
