A SCHEME which sees schoolkids swap rubbish for funding has entered its third year.
The Trash4Cash programme, started by Diane Murphy of the St Thomas Primary School’s PTA has been so successful that the school is now planning to apply for national Green Flag status for its eco credentials.
The Church View school works with Ward Recycling, who give them cash for aluminium cans to be used on school projects on the last Thursday of every school term.
In 2010 they raised more than £1,000 and staff are confident they have beaten that in 2011.
Diane said: “The kids love it – one boy brought in 40 bags of cans last Thursday.
“I’d really like to thank Donald Ward who’s been so helpful.”
