A COTMANHAY special school is celebrating after receiving an extra boost to its nature garden from its chair of governors.

Cllr Glennice Birkin donated £250 towards Bennerley Fields School’s garden, which will be used for a poly-tunnel to help pupils learn about wildlife and growing plants.

She said: “They love the garden – it’s all about getting their hands dirty.

“But they do learn an awful lot from it too.”

It is hoped that the poly-tunnel will be installed over the half term holiday this week.

The cash was taken from Cllr Birkin’s community fund – a pot of money to spend in her area.

Cllr Birkin is Derbyshire county councillor for Ilkeston and Erewash borough councillor for Ilkeston Central.

“The school isn’t in my area but they take children from all over the county,” she explained.
