ILKESTON youngsters will be hard to miss on the town’s streets this winter after brightly coloured gifts from a housing firm.

Barratt Homes, behind the Hallam Fields housing development in Corporation Road, donated one high-visibility wrist band each for all 223 pupils at nearby Field House Infants School as part of November’s national Walk to School Month.

The aim was to raise safety for children walking to and from the Lower Whitworth Road school by ensuring they are visible at all times.

The bands are designed to reflect in car’s headlights.

Headteacher Denise Wells said: “We are very grateful for the support from Barratt.

“The children love the slap-it wrist bands and they will no doubt come in very handy for all our pupils.”

National Walk to School Month planned to reduce the number of cars on the road and the amount of noise in the area.
