Elvis night raised £750 for charity

An Ilkeston store raised £750 in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF), by holding an Elvis night on Tuesday April 1.

Staff at Midlands Co-op Department store on the Market Place, Ilkeston, went the extra mile to fundraise for their new staff-elected charity, organising many fundraising events this Spring.

The Elvis Night, held at the Royal Regency Suite, Ilkeston, cost 5 to enter and included a special games package, a tribute to the King and a quiz.

Store manager Dave Elliott said: "This event was very successful and very enjoyable, everyone seemed to have had a good time.

"We are delighted with the amount raised as it goes a long way towards our 1,500 target to fund a defibrillator.

"We would particularly like to thank Midlands Co-op's Member Relations' team for their support and our vocalist for the night, Mr Mal Vincent, he was a fantastic compere; a big thank you to everyone who attended the evening, we could not have done it without their support."

Every two minutes someone in the UK has a heart attack and there are more than 2.6 million people now living with heart disease – a long term and debilitating condition.

Staff also challenged themselves to a sponsored exercise bike ride on Saturday 5 April which lasted over eight hours and raised 1,500 for BHF.
