The long-running Christmas tradition of Santa going round streets in Ilkeston on a sleigh has come to a sad end.
Families have been left devastated by the news that Santa will not be coming through the town this festive period.
The event was organised by Ilkeston Round Table but they disbanded due to lack of members,
Nikki Dilks, 26, a mum-of-two from Ilkeston, told the Tiser: “It all stemmed from me asking about it on Facebook. I wanted to make sure the kids would be able to see Santa,
“When I found out it would not be happening I was shocked. It has been here every year since I was a child.
“It usually starts around now and really makes Christmas for a lot of people. My five-year-old son keeps mentioning it.”
Mike Perry from the Ilkeston Hospital League of Friends said he was aware that the Round Table had closed.
He said: “At the last count there was only about five members.
“We have a Santa that will go to Trowell Garden Centre. There are all kinds of rules and regulations about sitting on trailers.”
Nobody from the former Round Table was available to comment.
