TEN people had to be evacuated from Bath Street businesses after a ceiling collapsed at a former cafe this weekend.
Walls gave way at the Ilkeston Fryer cafe on Saturday at about 12.55pm.
Police and firefighters from Ilkeston station were called to the scene to evacuate builders who had been renovating the cafe, and staff and shoppers from neighbouring estate agents.
Firefighters asked Erewash Borough Council to send out a structural engineer to the property to make the building safe and remained on the scene for hours until one arrived.
Police were on the scene for more than four hours making sure no one entered the building by clearing the pavement in front.
An ambulance was called but no one was injured in the collapse.
