Over the next few weeks we have various exciting projects coming up. As well as the Advertiser Money Savers scheme, we are launching a new monthly feature called Class Act.
This feature, which is set to start in October, will see one page a month handed over to a local Secondary School to highlight some of the great work being done by our youngsters.
The youth of today get a lot of criticism for anti-social behaviour, petty crime and vandalism. But for all the troubles that do occur, the majority of the kids in our towns really are a credit to our area.
It is these kinds of good news stories that the Class Act page will be highlighting.
The excellent work that goes on behind the scenes at our schools can sometimes be overlooked but this will give our schools the chance to shout them from the rooftop.
And staying on the theme of schools, next week will see the return of our annual New Kids on the Block feature where pictures of new starters at primary school from across our area will be published in next week’s paper.
So don’t miss your copy to see the kids starting school for the first time.
Looking further ahead and we will see the return of our New Year Honours awards. This is another way we at the Advertiser like to highlight some of the great work that is done in our towns by our unsung heroes.
Last year’s inaugural awards ceremony saw us celebrate the hard-working volunteers working so hard for the good of others.
The ceremony showcased the amazing community spirit which is still alive and kicking in the Ilkeston area.
This year also saw us host our first-ever Sports Awards celebrating the very best the sporting world in our area has to offer from our best sportstars and coaches and even to the unsung heroes working for our local sport clubs.
Add on our Streets of Change and On Your Doorstep features and it is easy to see how the Advertiser serves its community.
And you can guarantee we will continue to work across Ilkeston to bring you the local news and sport that matters.
