This picture from Karl Aldred’s scrapbook shows Alf Booth, who gave his name to the factory he ran in Awsworth Road.

He started as managing director in 1927, three years after the factory opened.

He employed thousands of Ilkeston folk and exported hosiery all over the country and the world.

Around the time of this photograph in 1960, the factory was churning out 5.25m pairs of stockings a year.
