A GRANDFATHER who died last year from cancer was remembered as two generations of an Ilkeston family got on their running shoes.

Patricia Bland, along with her daughters Sarah and Amy and her son’s partner Hayley Slack, ran the Race For Life in Darley Park, Derby, in memory of Patricia’s dad Dennis Cooper.

Dennis, a born and bred Ilkestonian and former captain of Victoria Bowling Team, died from cancer last September, aged 79.

Patricia said “Despite the rain, there was a good atmosphere but everyone had a story to tell of a relative or friend who had lost their life to cancer or were currently battling this dreaded illness and were there to raise money to help find a cure.”

The family target was to raise £500 for Cancer Research, which they have smashed, having so far collected £675.

There is still time to donate to Pat’s fund online at www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/patriciabland3007.

The 5km runs are held throughout the years at different locations to raise money for the charity and remember family members and friends who have died.
