Favourites at The Flowerpot

THE musical entertainment for 2009 at The Flowerpot in Derby comes to a suitably upbeat conclusion this week with three acts returning by popular demand.

First up, on Monday will be Rolling Stones tribute act The Rollin' Stoned, already a firm favourite with audiences at the King Street venue, based in the city centre.

This show pays affectionate tribute to the music and live antics of Mick, Keef and the boys, covering a wide range of classic Stones tracks in a riproaring and entertaining package.

Another Flowerpot stalwart is legendary guitarist Wilko Johnson, who will be putting in his latest appearance on Tuesday, December 29.

This son of Canvey Island first shot to fame in the early 1970s when his amazing guitar playing – combining rhythm and lead guitar parts – propelled the taut, r 'n' b tracks of Dr Feelgood out of the clubs and pubs of the band's native Essex and into the nation's consciousness.

After the heights of the number one album Stupidity, Johnson left for pastures new, eventually joining Ian Dury And The Blockheads.

These days, he is a familiar and much-revered figure on the live circuit and is joined in his crack trio of musicians by another Blockhead, bassist Norman Watt-Roy.

Finally, the last gig of the year, ahead of a three-week break at The Flowerpot, is a return visit on Wednesday, December 30 from tribute band Are You Experienced? with a breathtaking live show that salutes the never-to-be-forgotten musical talent of Jimi Hendrix.

Doors open at 8pm for all three gigs. Admission is 10 for The Rollin Stoned, 12 for Wilko Johnson and 8 (7 concessions) for Are You Experienced?
