Fire broke out on the roof of a flat in Ilkeston when equipment used by workmen caused ivy to set alight.

Crews were called to the Providence Place at around 3pm this afternoon when PC Chris Hamilton spotted the smoke when he was walking up Bath Street.

The workmen were laying a new roof and using blowtorches to melt tar when some ivy overhanging on the roof caught fire.

Nobody was injured as a result of the fire which out by 3.30pm.
