FIREFIGHTERS organised a football tournament for local school children and used the occasion to teach them about fire safety.

White watch invited pupils from Granby Juniors, Scargill Primary, Ladywood Primary and Chaucer Juniors to take part in the annual event.

Crew manager, Chris Timmons, said: “The football tournament is a great way to get local children all together, have a fun day but get our fire safety message across as well.

“In between games the kids can watch the chip pan fire demo and go into the smoke house and we tell them about the importance of smoke alarms.

“Everyone has a great day and all the children get a medal for taking part and hopefully take away really important safety messages.”

Trophies were provided by Three Valleys and local police manned a mobile station at the event.

Scargill were the winning side after both of the school’s teams met in the final.
