Christmas shoppers are reminded that Erewash Borough Council’s 24-hour free parking has begun in all its car parks.

The period, named ‘Freecember’ by the council, will run until Saturday January 3, and is the most extensive free festive parking offered by the council so far.

The scheme is part of the council’s on-going town centre regeneration drive and is aimed at attracting visitors to the borough and encouraging residents to shop locally during the busy run-up to the festive season and into the new year.

Councillor Barbara Harrison, the council’s lead member for environment said: “We have excellent markets and shops in Ilkeston and Long Eaton – and in villages across Erewash – so let’s all take advantage of ‘freecember’, do our Christmas shopping locally and support our borough.”

All council car parks are part of the scheme, except the Long Eaton Railway Station commuters’ car park.
