A mum and her three daughters are among the first people to register for the fifth Moonlight Walk, raising money for Treetops Hospice.

Sarah Meeson from West Hallam decided to get the family to do the walk after her mum, who has motor neurone disease, recently started visiting the Day Care Unit in Risley.

She’ll be joined by daughters Beth, 21, Laura, 19 and Niamh, 14.

Carol McNaughton, 67, was diagnosed in January 2013 and as her condition deteriorated was advised to attend weekly sessions at Treetops Hospice.

Sarah said: “When you hear the word hospice you think of the very end so I wasn’t sure about her going but Treetops is so much more, it’s not all doom and gloom.

“My mum loves it and has made lots of friends plus it gives my dad a break.

“I had heard of the Moonlight Walk before and as soon as mum started going to Treetops I said ‘right we’re doing it.’”

The ladies-only Moonlight Walk on Friday June 27 is a 5k or 10k circular walk around Derby city centre, starting and ending at the University of Derby.

Walkers raise cash through sponsorship for Treetops Hospice, which provides end of life care for adults and their families living in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The first event was held in 2010 and since then 1,669 women have walked, raising a total of £179,706. To register visit
