Funeral for Ilkeston soldier

The funeral of an 'utterly dedicated' Ilkeston soldier took place this afternoon (Thursday March 10).

Hundreds of mourners lined the streets and packed the church to pay their respects to 25-year-old Lance Sergeant Dave Greenhalgh.

Members of the public applauded as the coffin was carried in to St Mark's Church, Mansfield.

L/Sgt Greenhalgh, of the Grenadier Guards, was the first soldier to die during Operation Moshtarak.

He was killed instantly when a roadside bomb hit the vehicle he was travelling in, in Afghanistan.

The funeral, with full military honours, was held in Mansfield where L/Sgt Greenhalgh had family.
