A group of men tricked a pensioner into leaving his Sandiacre home while their accomplices burgled the property.

At around 1.45pm on Saturday, April 2, a man in his 70s was at home in Brooke Street, Sandiacre when a group of five men knocked on the door.

They offered to carry out repair work on the roof and clear the gutters, to which the man agreed.

Two of the men took the victim in their van under the pretence that he needed to sign paperwork for scaffolding hire.

After driving around for almost ten minutes, they took the man back home and dropped him off.

He realised his house had been broken into and cash stolen.

He has described three of the men as white and speaking with Irish accents.

One was aged around 30, muscular and had a shaved head. Another man was in his late 20s and had fair hair while the third was in his late 40s, around 5ft 8ins tall and stocky. He wore a brown flat cap.

The van is white, in good condition and only a few years old. It is right hand drive and has a sliding door on the driver’s side.
